The History of Litchfield Country Club
The Litchfield Country Club was organized in 1964 as a golf and country club for the enjoyment of its members, friends and families. The 18 hole golf course, designed by William Byrd, was completed in 1966, and the Clubhouse was finished shortly thereafter. It's among the oldest, and remains one of the most prestigious, clubs on the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand.
Litchfield Country Club was developed on what was part of Litchfield Plantation, one of the largest plantations on the Waccamaw Neck. Today the golf course and stately Clubhouse are nestled among giant live oaks that date back to the early 18th Century. The plantation-style Clubhouse has become the social hub of the country Club, where members enjoy a busy calendar of social events. the Clubhouse is also a popular venue for social occasions such as wedding receptions, anniversary parties and other private celebrations.
In addition to golf , the Country Club offers the Litchfield Racquet Club, voted one of the "top 5" tennis facilities in the nation by Tennis Magazine in 1997, and an outdoor swimming pool, located close to the Clubhouse and Golf Pro Shop. Both are part of the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort family, which also manages the Oceanfront Litchfield Inn, And Myrtle Beach National, which Own and operates nine championship golf coursed in the grand Strand area.
