Litchfield Country Club
Present: Max Morgan, Jim Jerow, David Reid, Joe Greco, Bleeker Cannon, Ed Blackhurst, Pat Richardson, Ray Crabb, Christa Bodensteiner, Tom Van Hogan, Kristen Prunier & Phil Nelson
Max Morgan reported even though the summer was very hot the Bermuda grass did well. Over seeding is scheduled for October 5th-7th however may be moved back a week due to warmer than normal temperatures. Max announced LCC Superintendent Dan Saber will be assuming the position of Head Superintendent at Pawley’s Plantation in November and that River Club Assistant Superintendent, David Hughes will become LCC Head Superintendent. Jim Jerow asked Max about the possibility of leveling the #3, #8, & #12 tee boxes. Max replied there is a possibility the work could be done next summer. Mr. Jerow also stated there have been some questions over the general maintenance of areas to the right on the fairways of #10 & #12. Max stated he would inspect the areas in question.
Pat Richardson reported the annual Rally for the Cure tournament was highly successful with 56 ladies and 16 men participating. The total amount raised is still being finalized and will be reported next month. The ladies will begin the President’s Cup/Club championship today.
David Reid reported the Fall Mixer tournament is this Saturday and good participation is expected. LCC placed 5th in the men’s Interclub tournament. Mr. Reid also announced there will be a cooperative effort with the members of Pawley’s Plantation to combine both clubs men’s member guest for 2011. Mr. Crabb stated he had met with key members and the idea was receiving positive response.
Kristen Pruiner, stated the SC State Closed tournament went well with less participants than hoped which was due mainly to the USTA’s decision on points distribution to facilities hosting the events. The Club championship is scheduled for October 15th-17th and the annual Oktoberfest tournament and party will be October 30th.
Golf
Phil Nelson reported July and August had little activity with two new members and four resignations. David Reid proposed to the Advisory Board that a plan of some type featuring a reduced initiation fee with a dues adjustment be considered by Myrtle Beach National in efforts to increase membership. Mr. Crabb assured Mr. Reid the proposal would be addressed in due time with senior management.
Bleeker Cannon reported that in addition of the resignation of Bob Bicknell due to moving there have also been two other resignations from the board creating openings which have yet to be filled. The “Dog Days of Summer” parade and cook out at LCC was well attended with a good time for all. The current paid membership is at 192 with a goal of 200.
Phil Nelson had nothing new to report. Jim Jerow asked if the members would be able to use their food and beverage minimum at Pawley’s Plantation. Mr. Crabb replied a decision has not been made at this time.
Ed Blackhurst stated the Fall Gala is October 22nd and is expecting a good turn attendance. This year the popular band “Latitude” will be performing.
Old Business/New Business
Under new business Mr. Crabb announced the Executive Chef from Pawley’s Plantation is now the Executive Chef at Webster’s and suggested everyone try the new menu. Ed Blackhurst gave a positive mention the food at Webster’s has been very appetizing.
